Bellevegas IV

Things are getting bigger and better with the Bellevegas family of entertainers. Building on the success of the first three Bellevegas concerts, Bellevegas IV, taking place on Saturday, November 5, 7:30 pm at the Empire Theatre in Belleville, will feature the modern big band sounds of The Dan Shaer Big Band.

This 18-piece band was started by Dan Shaer in the mid-90s as The Music of Your Life Orchestra, representing the internationally syndicated radio show of the same name. Under Dan’s leadership, the band represented the radio show, performing live concerts and dances across Ontario at various venues, including the Royal York Hotel and the Harbour Castle in Toronto. The band was also featured in the touring musical, I’ve Heard That Song Before.

The Dan Shaer Big Band is not your traditional big band. Their moto is ‘Not your grandma’s big band.’ Since its inception, the band has featured a modern sound, similar to the Brian Setzer and Phil Collins big bands, performing modern versions of traditional big band music and contemporary music. The members of the band come from Kingston through to Toronto, up to Peterborough and the Quinte area.

For those not familiar with the Bellevegas concerts, the continuing goal of the concerts is to help raise funds for the Quinte Arts Council and to support their ongoing programs. We bring together a great band – for the first three concerts we featured Variety the Dance and Show Band and The Power Connection – and 12 of the best vocalists in the Quinte region.

Many of the cast members from Bellevegas III will be returning, including our ladies of song, Jeanette Arsenault, Lenni Stewart, Wendy Shaer, Susan Walsh, Kim Dafoe, Debra Tosh, and Jenn Miller. We are also fortunate to again feature Tim Campbell, Tim Hunt and John Miller.

Sonya Zaback

Joining us for her debut with the Bellevegas family will be Sonya Zaback, a very talented singer and entertainer. Sonya is the daughter of Al Zaback, another well-known singer in the Quinte area. A Belleville native, currently living in Prince Edward County, Sonya fell in love with the stage as a child. She has performed as an actor with several local theatre companies, and as a vocalist, regularly appearing at venues such as Capers Restaurant, The Belleville Club, and Night Kitchen Too.

Freddy Vette

Another new addition to the show is Freddy Vette, who will perform as well as act as our MC. When Freddy’s not mastering ceremonies, he’s on the air on 800 CJBQ spinning hits from the 50s and 60s. His weekday afternoon show has been rockin’ since 2009. When he’s not in a radio studio, he’s usually on stage with his band Freddy Vette & The Flames performing here and there in Ontario. He can also be found on a tractor in various fields near Ivanhoe doing real work! Freddy is honoured to be part of this show for the Quinte Arts Council and hopes you will continue to support its very worthy endeavours. For all things Freddy, visit http://www.freddyvette.com or listen weekdays from 2 till 7 pm on 800 CJBQ.
