Dan Curtis Thompson is a Toronto stand-up comedian, writer and actor who is originally from Belleville. He has made his way across Canada performing on stages, acting in plays and musicals and telling jokes that his grand parents don’t understand. Dan produces multiple shows in Toronto such as New Faces of Comedy, a show for new comedians to try the craft out as well as Character Comedy, a show where comedians perform stand up from the perspective of their chosen character. A published writer with CBC Comedy, Dan graduated from St. Lawrence College’s Music Theatre Performance Program and has received training from the St. Lawrence Shakespeare Company and Second City. A talented film producer, his credits include Mr. Watermelon’s Tale of Strife: I Remember Ilsa; The Tank; and The Unemployed Chronicles. As a playwright he has written Consonance: A Stand Up Dramedy; Taste of Seduction; I Love You Too; as well as a number of sketch comedies with Black Rabbit Theatre. Local audiences would have seen him at the Stirling Festival’s Jack in the Beanstalk pantomime during the past holiday season. Dan will be performing on stage as well as being the emcee for the Comedy for the Arts event.
Since her debut in Ottawa, Rebecca Reeds has quickly become a comedian to watch out for. She’s been described as “completely literate” and “female”, a dangerous combination. Rebecca has recorded for CBC, Sirius XM and was a finalist in the first annual Absolute Comedy Competition. Past festivals include JFL 42, SheDot and the Ottawa Fringe Festival.
Guled Abdi is an aspiring stand-up comedian based in Toronto. Since starting stand-up in 2014 he has been a semifinalist in the 2016 Comedy Brawl, performed on the legendary Nubian Disciples show at Yuk Yuk’s and he’s currently a member of the Fusion 2.0 and Tallboyz II Men sketch troupes. Guled performs weekly at shows around the city peddling his observational jokes from one bar to another.
James Hamilton has been performing stand-up comedy for 4 years. He has headlined shows in Toronto, London, France and Barcelona. He currently runs the “I Heart Jokes” nominated open mic every Monday at The Ossington in Toronto, and is excited to start a new show, “The Alternate Reality Comedy Show” out of The Comedy Bar next month! Follow him on twitter @hammedjamilton for more details and extraneous musings.
Caleb Gazley is an award winning Toronto based writer-performer who has spent half of his life in showbiz. Born on the prairie in the early 1990s, things really got interesting when he moved away. He holds an Honours Diploma in Comedy Writing & Performance from Humber ITAL- School of Creative & Performing Arts and has toured across Canada and The United States performing for adoring audiences. Multiple appearances at Yuk Yuk’s Comedy Club lead to the formation of his Sketch Troupe; Cheap Shots, with whom he occasionally performs. Chances are, if you ask what Caleb is doing and he answers honestly, he’d probably say he’s working on his skills. That, or cooking poorly or eating well.
Jason Bremner has been skulking around the entertainment community for many years. Aside from teaching secondary school for 20 years, he has performed at Pinnacle Playhouse in Belleville, and at Theatres in Picton and even Cherry Valley. Jason still works occasionally as a professional storyteller and has been known to busk with Richard Cole now and then.
Richard Cole has long history in entertainment spanning about 20 years. He has worked in the fields of magic, illusion, song and dance, a vital member of the band Rockness Monster, and more recently, a stage hypnotist. Richard is most recognizable with his fabled 12-string guitar and has been known to appear on stage without pants. From time to time, he busks with Jason Bremner.
The evening includes a 50/50 draw and a cash bar. Tickets are $25 or $20 for Quinte Arts Council members and can be purchased from the QAC, 36 Bridge St. E, Belleville (call 613-962-1232 to order by phone) or ONLINE and at the door.
