The 6th Annual ARTEVĪNO (a celebration of regional art, wine and food) will be held at the Crystal Palace in Picton on Saturday, June 19 (original date was May 29).  Visual artists and art groups who are members of either the Quinte Arts Council or the Prince Edward County Arts Council are invited to join us in a celebration of regional arts, wine and food.  A table and linen will be provided on which to display your work.  If you have your own booth please let us know when responding to this call.  There is no entry fee and 20% of all work sold will be donated to support QAC and PECAC.  Deadline Mar. 19  Let us know by March 19 if you wish to participate!  Send contact information and digital images of examples of the work that you wish to display to either Carol Feeney at feeney@quinteartscouncil.org or Tracy Douglas at pecartscouncil@bellnet.ca.  For further information, contact the Quinte Arts Council (613-962-1232) or the Prince Edward County Arts Council (613-476-7901 ext 214).

Change of date:  A reading/launch of Rick Patrick’s book, The Stonehaven Poems, (originally scheduled for Apr. 16) will take place at the Madoc Public Library on April 23, at 7 pm.

Mar. 13                  Reg Corey will perform at the Consecon Legion from 2 to 5.

2nd Friday every month   Pianist Rick Penner plays in the John M. Parrott Art Gallery, Belleville Library 3rd floor.  On Mar. 12, the theme is Richard Rodgers – Some Enchanted Morning.  Rick will include an educational presentation, using visual and historical information about the composers, or the musical genre.  Free admission, coffee and treats available.  Info: 613-968-6731, ext. 2240.

Mar. 13                  Learn how to use your new digital camera and take wonderful photos at a one-day Digital Camera Course with photographer, Peggy deWitt. Discover and explore the different camera settings, ISO, shutter speeds, flash setting, images size and quality.  Bring your camera, owner’s manual and make sure your camera batteries are charged.  Mar. 13, 10 am to 3:30 pm, at the Belleville Library, corner of Pinnacle and Campbell.  Limited for first 12 people to register. Mar. 13 to Apr. 25    The Colborne Art Gallery, 51 King St. E, Colborne, presents Alf Blything A Retrospective, a wonderful opportunity to revisit the rare talent of the late Alf Blything, including many pieces from private collections.  Alf was an inspired and prolific artist, constantly amazing us with his intricate and detailed work and his wry sense of humour.  New works by the other gallery artists are shown in the 2nd and 3rd galleries.  Opening reception on Sat. Mar. 14                  Port Hope Friends of Music present Havana’s Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba, at the Cameco Capitol Arts Centre at 4 pm.  With their Spanish and Afro-Cuban rhythms, and a fusion of ballet, flamenco and contemporary dance.  Tickets are $39, $15 for students, at the door.

Deadline Apr. 20     The last weekend of each September, individuals, groups and municipalities are invited to provide free opportunities for the public to experience and participate in their particular activity. Mar. 15 to 19        The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon, presented by SFT Young Company, performed by kids, for kids, at The Stirling Festival Theatre.  Take a half dozen Brothers Grimm fairy tales, a dozen lively, local young actors, one fabulous stage, and you’ve got a truly outstanding theatre experience for the audience and the performers. Mar. 16                  The Hastings County Historical Society holds public meetings the third Tuesday of each month, at the auditorium of Quinte Living Centre, 370 Front St., Belleville, with special guest speakers and presentations.  March 16 Bryan Keene, topic: Mcleod Dam refit for power generation. 

Mar. 17 to Apr. 21    Photography lecture and workshop with professional photographer Peggy deWitt will be a perfect opportunity to learn more about composition, lighting, depth of field, flash and your digital camera. The workshop is designed to encourage you to use your digital camera to improve your photography skills, with assignments and critiques every week. Basic camera knowledge is an asset. Bring your camera & owner’s manual to class. Mar. 20                  Maia Heissler will launch her book, Wild things For the Soul: Connecting with Nature to Balance our Lives, on Mar. 20, 2 to 4 pm, at the Heritage Centre Art Gallery, 40 Victoria St. N., Tweed, as part of the show reception for the new visual art exhibition.  This book is created from experiences in field and forest, a series of anecdotes, reflections, insights, and suggestions for nature-based activities, richly and delightfully interwoven with pen and ink drawings.  Along with her book launch, Heissler will also display her forest friend dioramas.  Info:  Suzanne Cavers at suzannecavers.ca or phone 613 478 3176.

Deadline Mar. 30  Attention performing artists: Ontario Contact and Contact East have collaborated on the production of a new application process for showcasing artists. Sculptures on display       Work by George Foster, North America’s foremost sculptor of insects is currently on display at Stockdale Mill Gallery.  Selected beetles are available for sale.  Foster began his career casting sculpture for other artists. Deadline May 15  In response to the G8 Summit, which is being held this June in Huntsville, Muskoka, Muskoka Arts & Crafts is inviting artists worldwide to submit postcard sized pieces of original artwork, dealing with issues of political concern, to a show called Postcards To The G8.  The work will be on display in public places throughout the region from June to 30.  For more information, visit http://bit.ly/postcardstotheg8.

WorkinCulture Connects - The Business of Art
Back by popular demand! New session begins April 12th
 
The Business of Art course gives creative workers the business skills to plan for success and take control of their careers.
 
Starting on April 12th, this intensive program helps creative workers from any field transfer their artistic planning skills to career and business. 
 
The Business of Art takes participants through the fundamentals of
ˇ         business planning
ˇ         marketing research
ˇ         marketing action plans
ˇ         financial planning
ˇ         and small business management.
Business and career coaches have worked with CCCO to make the course practical and dynamic. Twenty-two artists from all over Ontario provided insights and tips from their own successful practices for the course manual. Participants produce their own business plan at the end for review by business specialists.
 
The Business of Art begins Monday, April 12th at 6pm at the Lillian Smith Library at 239 College Street (College and Spadina). The cost of the course is $299.00 plus $14.95 GST(includes 6 workshops, one group coaching session, a manual/workbook, review of business plans and a final presentation).

Artists in dance, music, theatre and multidisciplinary arts, submit your applications to be part of the CINARS 2010 official programming!

More than 1000 artists, agents, programmers, producers and observers from around the world will meet in Montreal from November 15 to 21, 2010, during CINARS 2010. A selection of quality creations in various disciplines of the performing arts will be featured, some in excerpt and others in full-length performance.

A jury of performing arts professionals will gather to select the official programming of showcases. Please note that a fee of CAD $100 (non-refundable) is required for processing the application.
