Education – Joyce spent four summers at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto and has her Art Specialist Certificate. She also has taken art courses at Loyalist College and Queen’s University. She has studied locally with the late Donnah Cameron, Donnah Bojanowski, Sharon Bower, Linda Kemp and Donna Bonin. Joyce taught elementary school for thirty-five years. She was the art co-ordinator at “Susanna Moodie School” and “Queen Elizabeth School” in Belleville.
At the Annual Juried Show in 2009, Joyce won the Wilma Alexander Drawing Skill Award with her watercolour “Bullet the Turtle.”
She is a member of the Belleville Art Association and the Quinte Arts Council. She exhibits monthly at the Belleville Art Association. Her work is also on display at the Belleville Medical Centre, Barratt’s Office Pro, C.A.S. and several other locations in the “Art in the Community” program.
She now paints with watercolour, acrylics, French dyes on silk and does stained glass. her style she calls impressionistic, in the sense that it is somewhere between photorealism and abstract expressionism. She is attracted to old and weathered buildings, landscapes, and florals.
She has painted and travelled in Sicily, the Greek islands, Southern France, Malta ,Tuscany, the Amalfi Coast , the Bavarian Alps , as well as locations in Canada. As a retired school teacher, Joyce has found that “Art” is a rewarding pastime. her works of art have travelled around the world.
