Great things are happening at the Quinte Arts Council!

Executive Director Janet Jarrell welcomes two new faces to the QAC: Fiona Campbell as Director of Communications & Outreach, and Adam Gray as Creative Director. Both are working artists — Campbell as a writer and editor, and Gray as a documentary filmmaker and arts event coordinator – and together bring almost three decades of creative experience to the QAC.

“The QAC has a rich and long history in this community, and there is an enormous potential for our new team with fresh ideas and creative energy to make a difference,” says Jarrell. “Both Adam and Fiona are enthusiastic supporters of the arts and each has unique, but complementary, skills to bring to the table.”

“Working for the last couple years as coordinator for DocFest, I found that I really fell in love with the local arts community here in Belleville. It was such a rewarding experience and I wanted to do more,” says Gray. “When I saw that Janet was stepping into the role of Executive Director, it was obvious to me that something new and exciting was happening and I wanted to be a part of it. I believe with my background and strong creative vision I can really help kick things up a notch.”

Quinte is home to a deep pool of artistic talent and the new staff is eager to support and promote them in fresh and innovative ways. To begin, our much loved Umbrella newspaper, which has been the mainstay of stories and news about arts and culture in Quinte since 1991, is being relaunched as a glossy magazine, starting with the summer issue in June.

“I’ve been an artist member of the QAC for years, and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to now support artists and their work,” says Campbell. “Living in Madoc and working in downtown Belleville offers me the best of both worlds; every day I get to tap into the creative energy of the local arts community, while staying true to my roots as an artist working and living rurally.”

“The Board is thrilled that Fiona and Adam have joined the QAC team,” says chair Jenny Woods. “In the short time they’ve been with us, we’ve already seen renewed energy, vision and direction for the council. Collaborating with Janet as Executive Director, we’re excited to see what’s next for the QAC!”
