Later Life Learning Belleville

A series of 3 lectures

10:00 am to 12:00 noon

Wednesdays, November 4, 18, 25, 2015 (Note: No lecture on November 11)

St. Thomas’ Church Hall, 201 Church Street, Belleville

Canada is recognized by residents and outsiders as being a great place to live in terms of economics, social values, and basic freedoms. And yet, we are all so aware and introspective of the “pressing problems” we encounter daily in media reports. In fact, this three-lecture series could have easily been expanded into a twelve week seminar, but it may have been too depressing! So, let’s focus on a few: national governance; global ecology; and a long-standing matter of conscience.

November 4:

Peter Milliken, Former Speaker of the House of Commons 2001-11; Fellow, School of Policy Studies, Queen’s University:

“Ottawa! Some thoughts from a Chair on the Hill.”

November 11: no lecture

November 18:

Warren Maybee, Department of Geography and Planning, School of Policy Studies, Queen’s University: “Water woes: The pressing worldwide problems of sometimes too much, sometimes too little.”

November 25:

Georgina Riel (Waabiski Mukwa Kwe), First Nations Advocate, Traditional Knowledge Keeper, RIEL Cultural Indigenous Consulting:

“Chief Shingwauk’s Vision:  How his ‘Teaching Wigwam’ was converted into a Residential School”
