After six months serving as general manager for the Quinte Arts Council, Janet Jarrell is now taking on the role of executive director. With previous experience as the volunteer coordinator and a brief time serving on the board, Janet hit the ground running last September, and the momentum hasn’t stopped.
“As chair of the board, I am pleased to make this announcement. With Janet at the helm, the Quinte Arts Council is well positioned to fulfill its mission of stimulating, supporting and advocating for the arts in the Belleville and Quinte area,” said Jenny Woods. “I look forward to seeing her renewed energy, fresh ideas and strong leadership move us in new directions.”
Part of moving forward involves honouring the QAC’s roots as a collaborative force of the Quinte arts community since the council’s inception in 1967.
“Our core mission continues to be creating connections, raising awareness and fostering collaborations between artist groups and members,” said Jarrell. “This means representing artists and local arts organization’s best interests at the municipal level, and supporting the growth and success of established and emerging artists, including students – the next generation.”
The primary goal for Jarrell was to build a strong, passionate and creative team – both staff and volunteer – who believe in the power of the QAC to champion arts and culture in the Quinte region. This new staff is currently working on transitioning the Umbrella newspaper (first launched in 1991) into a vibrant local arts magazine. They are also working on the upcoming juried art show Expressions, which will be on display at the Parrott Gallery in May, and then the always loved Plein Air Painting Festival.
“I have to credit the board of directors; their dedication, knowledge and support during this exciting transition has helped create a solid foundation moving the QAC forward,” said Jarrell. “And I look forward to connecting with our artist members and supporters at our Annual General Meeting in June!”
The Expressions Juried Art Show runs at the J.M Parrott Art Gallery from May 2 to 30, 2019 The Arts en Plein Air Painting Festival runs from May 23 to 26, 2019.
