Hi! Thanks for taking the time to look at some of my work. I have started a series of backyard bird paintings. In past years, I have painted a few cartoon characters** (parodies of famous paintings) just for my kids, for Christmas.
Life’s lemons have afforded me the opportunity to make some lemonade and the time to get a little more serious with the craft. I am trying all different types of painting subjects, just to see what I enjoy most. I also intend to explore different styles of painting, from abstract to who knows what.
My favourite paintings are from the Romantic Period, 18th and 19th centuries. I love the dark and moody feeling of this era with its epic themes and characters, and I hope to learn and develop painting in that style first. My cover photo shows a painting I recently finished. It is a humble attempt to capture some of that romantic feeling and learn something about the use of light and dark that George W. Joy created in his 19th-century masterpiece Flora MacDonald’s Farewell to Bonnie Prince Charlie.
**Please Note: I do not accept commissions or sell copyright characters. The paintings are created for my children for private use.
