Belleville is embracing the rhythm and soul of jazz this April as the city officially proclaims it Jazz Appreciation Month. Music lovers can look forward to a month-long celebration featuring a diverse lineup of performances at various downtown venues, showcasing the incredible talent of local jazz artists.
“Arts and culture are such an important part of our community’s well-being. It is our pleasure to proclaim April as Jazz Appreciation Month in the City of Belleville,” says Mayor Neil Ellis. “I encourage everyone to attend any jazz events this month to show your appreciation for the arts.”
This initiative is spearheaded by Dan Douglas, Artistic Director of the new Belleville Jazz Society (BJS). Supported by the City of Belleville, kicking off the celebration is the 2nd annual Jazzlicious – a collaborative effort between the BJS, the Downtown Belleville BIA and the Quinte Arts Council. Their shared vision is to highlight and celebrate the rich jazz culture that thrives within the community, offering numerous opportunities for residents to experience the magic of live jazz performances.
Douglas expressed his enthusiasm for the proclamation: “Jazz is the heartbeat of musical improvisation and creativity, and Belleville is full of extraordinary musical talent. This celebration provides a platform for musicians to share their passion and for the community to immerse themselves in the dynamic and soulful world of jazz by experiencing live performance right here in our city”
Throughout April, local venues will host an array of performances, culminating in a grand finale event on April 26 at the Belleville Club featuring the CrapShooters Jive Band, followed by an open jam session. Whether you’re a longtime jazz aficionado or new to the genre, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
