Belleville photographer Danny Sheppard has a keen eye for natural architecture and for capturing the beauty of the region, particularly the landscapes of the Bay of Quinte. Over the years, Sheppard has built an impressive body of work characterized by brilliant sunsets, majestic star-filled skies, rippling waters, and pristine winter vistas. His images reflect a deep appreciation for the quiet drama of nature and the changing moods of the local landscape.

While Sheppard’s landscape photography reveals his connection to the natural world, another side of his creative practice comes alive in music venues and concert halls. Sheppard is also a musician with a passion for rock concerts, and his performance photography is equally striking. Visitors to his website will find powerful images of legendary artists immersed in fog, colour, and dramatic stage lighting. From The Tragically Hip and ZZ Top to Blue Rodeo and Sarah Harmer, Sheppard has photographed some of the biggest acts to perform in Kingston.

Artists like Sheppard play an important role in shaping how our region is seen and experienced, both locally and beyond. The Bay of Quinte Regional Marketing Board (BoQRMB) has long embraced the region’s vibrant arts and culture scene, highlighting artists like Danny Sheppard through its “Artist Spotlight” series in the Quinte Arts Council’s quarterly arts magazine, Umbrella. Recognizing exceptional local talent is just one of the many ways Dug Stevenson and the BoQRMB team contribute to the continued growth of the region’s creative community.

One image in particular beautifully captures both Sheppard’s artistic sensibility and the spirit of the region he photographs. This stunning photograph of Chisholm Mills on the Moira River in Roslin, Tyendinaga Township — with its silky flowing falls and richly textured sky — is an excellent example of Sheppard’s painterly approach. Stevenson first submitted the image for the Spring 2025 issue of Umbrella, and the Quinte Arts Council was so impressed that it was selected again for the cover of the recently published Winter year-in-review issue.

Look for your copy of Umbrella in your local grocery store, library, galleries and the LCBO.
