Carl Wiens

Carl Wiens is a Belleville based illustrator, painter and educator.


Carl has enjoyed a successful career spanning more than 30 years. Carl finds his inspiration in science and nature and is fascinated by robots, insects and exoplanets.

Carl’s work has been internationally recognized by the Society of Illustrators, American Illustration, 3 x 3 and Applied Arts Annual. He has been published in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Time, Forbes, Barron’s Weekly and Esquire. His book projects include The Science of Song, Wild Buildings and Bridges, and FINNA.

In addition to his art, Carl teaches science and technology-based illustration at Sheridan College where he is continually inspired by the dedication and creativity of the next generation of illustrators.

Carl lives in Belleville with his dog Kona, two sons and lovely wife, Kim. When he’s not busy with his illustration work, Carl enjoys cycling, kayaking, stargazing, chopping wood and playing hockey. Being outside and surrounded by nature has been a source of energy and creativity for Carl.
