Susan Wallis is an encaustic artist and the owner and curator of Melt Studio Gallery in Picton, Ontario. At Melt, she works out of her on-site encaustic studio while providing opportunities for artists of all career levels to showcase their work through frequent group shows. The gallery has a rotating schedule of group shows and open calls, and is home to an assortment of unique artworks and artisan-made items. She aims to provide an inclusive, accepting space for Canadian artists to display their work.
“Currently my muse is the Canadian landscape. The vast fields, forests and lakescapes of Canada provide endless inspiration. Although traditional in subject manner my approach is that of simplicity. I believe strongly that a painting should depict the act of seeing, not the object seen. I offer through my paintings an atmospheric suggestion of possibility or the probability of the moment. It is what I don’t depict, the parts I leave out, that is sometimes the most important element of my work.”
Come see Susan’s work and the work of over 25 Canadian artists on view at Melt Studio and Gallery, open Thursday-Sunday from 11-5.
