RISE – Because We Are Equal

The Quinte Arts Council is proud to present the 8th Annual International Women’s Day Exhibition, RISE: Because We Are Equal. Each year, this exhibition brings our community together to reflect, celebrate, and take action toward a more equitable future. In 2026, we embrace the global theme Give To Gain, inviting everyone to imagine a gender equal world — one free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated.

The IWD 2026 Give To Gain campaign encourages a mindset of generosity and collaboration. Giving is intentional multiplication. When individuals, organizations, and communities give generously — through donations, mentorship, advocacy, visibility, education, or time — opportunities for women expand. Networks grow stronger. Confidence deepens. When women thrive, we all rise.

This year’s exhibition features the powerful work of 21 local artists! Through painting, collage, and mixed media, these artists explore identity, resilience, community, and belonging, each offering a unique lens on equality and shared strength.

Artist Emebet Belete reflects on her featured collage, Give to Gain:

“This collage shows a group of women walking together to the market, carrying large pots. They are helping each other and working as a team. This shared work is more than just carrying something heavy. It shows their friendship and strong connection. The piece celebrates the quiet teamwork that keeps everyday life going and the spirit of giving that makes everyone stronger.”

Her words beautifully capture the heart of this year’s exhibition. Gender equality is not built through isolated effort — it is carried forward together. It lives in everyday acts of support, collaboration, and shared responsibility.

At the Quinte Arts Council, we believe creativity is a catalyst for change. RISE is more than an exhibition; it is a gathering space for dialogue, reflection, and collective momentum. As we prepare for #IWD2026, we invite you to ask yourself: What will you Give to Gain gender equality?

Together, let us cultivate creativity, champion inclusion, and forge a future where equality is not imagined — it is lived.
