Susan Wallis is a professional encaustic painter based in Picton, Ontario. She obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Toronto and a certificate in Design from Sheridan College, has taught at several universities and art schools throughout her career and is the curator and owner of the Melt Studio and Gallery in Picton. Her work is represented in several galleries throughout Ontario and Alberta. Before becoming an encaustic painter (wax and oil), Susan painted with acrylics but was unsatisfied by the messiness and long drying times. She loves encaustic painting because of the quick drying time, the vibrancy of colours, and the range of texture. Currently, Susan’s muse is the Canadian landscape and believes that “a painting should depict the act of seeing, not the object being seen.”
