Joanne Rich

Joanne Rich is a paper artist who lives in Stirling. Joanne was introduced to papermaking during high school after attending an enrichment camp in Toronto where she learned under a professional artist. After studying advertising at OCAS and working in the industry she began studying papermaking and lantern making.

Papermaking was invented two millennia ago and the process remains the same. For Joanne it’s a way to connect with her heritage. Joanne uses fibres native to the environment around her. Everything from twigs and vines to creating paper made from nearby plants. One of her favourite plants to use is the milkweed, a plant native to Ontario and host to the endangered monarch butterfly. She recently used milkweed in her submissions for the 2023 QAC Expressions show which is hanging at the John M. Parrott Gallery until June 22, 2023.
